How I power my home

August 27th, 2009

How would you feel when you don’t have to pay for the power you use? Wouldn’t it be delightful to use as much power as you want without worrying about the electricity meter? You can make use of the abundant power available in the nature to light up your home and make your food.

I wanted to reduce my power costs to help save money and help the environment. But I didn’t have any knowledge on how to proceed. I don’t have a degree in engineering, but I wanted to use solar power. I didn’t have $30,000 to buy a professionally installed set up. But, I was really motivated. I wanted to do something good for the environment and save money while I was doing it. I know that others had been able to build solar panels for their home, but I didn’t know where to begin.

The first solar panel I built

The first solar panel I built

I did extensive research. I went to the library, I studied home courses. I tried many products on the internet to try to solve this problem. To be honest, I had stopped searching for a while and came across this product by accident. And after seeing it featured on CNN and in the New York Times, so I decided to check it out.

I eventually did find that you can easily make power at home with solar energy to eliminate your power bill. To get to the point, the best way that I found to create cheap solar power for my home was with Earth4Energy.

Earth4Energy’s alternate power solutions give you a return on investment very soon, thus making the power supply to your home eventually free.

The reason why I recommend Earth4Energy is because I followed their easy plan to create a solar power panel and it cost only $200! The results were really great. What seemed to be so different with this program was that a major consideration was a step by step process to build solar cells just like the pros do. It was very simple and easy to understand.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned do-it-yourselfer or a novice starting out, this system and manual is structured so that anyone can be successful with his product. And with clear illustrations and videos, it feels like you have your own personal instructor walking you through each step of the process. I for one needed the walk through because I really didn’t have experience building solar panels

In my opinion, this is way more superior and far more effective than any of the other products I tried. You get all the instructions you need and with the complete instructions this makes for a fun at home project.

Now, to be clear I have had to ramp up to very low energy bills. Using this system, you just can’t power your entire home with just one solar panel at under $200 for parts. You will have to build multiple installations to get to that point. To this date I have spent about $1400 to almost eliminate by bills.

If you are thinking it is not very feasible to live off solar power solutions for your home, you will be surprised to learn that they are not only cost-effective but also extremely feasible. I have a goal of being totally “off the grid” within the next year.

Anyway, I hope you’ve found this information useful if you’re thinking about cutting your bills and doing something good for the environment. I really wish I had known about Earth4Energy years ago. Take a look for yourself.

Some Important Information About Solar Power

August 8th, 2009

Solar power is a phrase generically used to describe various methods involving harnessing the sun’s light and transferring that into some form of other useful energy. What we know as solar power can be used in a multitude of ways to power machines involved in many different aspects of our lives. Practically anything one can imagine can use solar energy to complete it’s function; water heaters, lights, pumps, battery chargers and batteries to store the power, as well as many other uses including transportation.

There are limits to this power conversion however, which are being highlighted more and more as the sun’s light is subject to a phenomenon known as ‘Global Dimming’. As we can guess, solar power needs sunlight to work, the more sun there is the more efficient is the conversion from light to another energy. Global Dimming, closely allied to Global Warming, involves the pollutants in the earth’s atmosphere literally blocking the sun’s rays and so the efficient exchange of light to energy is affected. This is naturally of concern to those who see solar power as a way of utilizing a re-usable and sustainable energy source, even though the modern conversion relies on less and less sunlight. There are small efficient appliances that work on cloudy days in more temperate climates, but by and large the bigger the intended use the more sunlight is required.

Those limits, however, are being pushed more and more by the continuing development of more efficient transfer methods such as the photovoltaic cells used in modern arrays. Other methodologies using passive solar designs are helping tremendously in achieving a complete solar energy solution as are solar thermal heat transfer mechanisms such as those used in solar water heating systems. Developments in battery technology to store the solar power conversion assists greatly in this continuing efficiency.

The demand for solar power solutions is increasing and the questions inevitably asked are: how can it be used for my home? Another question if there is enough sun in my area to use it? The concise answer for both of these questions is that there are very few places where solar energy would not adequately meet at least some of those energy requirements.

Any such system assessed, designed and installed by qualified technicians could supply at least part of the energy requirements. Typically a solar power system will give sufficient energy even on a cloudy day, but would obviously give more when it’s sunny.

Learn How Easy it is to Build Solar Panels

August 7th, 2009

A lot of people are trying these days to install solar panels, so they can save money and avoid paying extra for growing costs of the energy.

Just take a look at the prices asked by most professionals and you will realize that few can afford to pay others to do this job. The must cheaper and easier way to get solar power is to teach yourself how to install them.

If you are the type of guy that is motivated and loves the do it yourself mentality, making some solar panels can be an easy task. As far as the costs of buying the right parts and installing solar panels that are pre-made, it’s actually much easier to make them. Another good part of teaching yourself how to build solar panels is that you can also decide on the design and size.

When you get yourself a manual of good quality and you invest the time to learn how to build solar panels, you can easily find the needed supplies. You can find them in almost every hardware store, since we’re talking about glass sheets, plywood or copper wire.

Finding photovoltaic or solar cells is also an easy task. You can buy them from local stores or you can order them online. Once you master the process of building solar panels, making one of 100 watts should only take around one day. Such a panel is perfect if you want to power a small workshop or appliances.

What is really important is to find a good manual that offers you a lot of detailed instructions on building a solar panel. Skimping on the manual might offer you something with insufficient instructions, so pay the extra few bucks for a good one. Since you spend so little on making a solar panel, the few bucks that you pay for the manual are worth it. Overall you’re still spending very little compared to what a professional might ask.

By putting a bit of effort into it, you can easily learn how to build some solar panels. Imagine the pride you will feel when your block will lose power and you will be the only one to have light.

How Much Does Solar Power Cost In Australia ?

August 6th, 2009

I am considering getting solar power for my house. Does anybody have an appox idea how much it would cost to fit my house with this. We just have a typical 3 bedroom house. I have also heard that if your solar panels produce more energy than what you use, it will go back into the power grid, and the energy company will pay you. Is this right? If so any ideas on how much you get back? Thanks

Solar Power?

August 5th, 2009

We are looking at buying a house and renovating it, and were wondering about using solar or wind power to power much of our house. We will have a well, be on a septic system, have a wood burning furnace for heating the house, so we would like to have solar or wind power so we can use as little electricity as possible (its insanely expensive here!). We also have our appliances (fridge, stove, washer, dryer, freezer).
How much would a basic set up be for a 900 sq ft, 3 bedroom house? For either wind turbines or solar panels and necessary equipment? I am in Southern Ontario.
Thanks!
